The perfect getaway for the entire family
Bringing the family to see the windmills
Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage is the perfect place to bring the whole family whenever you visit. There’s always plenty to see, do, and discover here – even for the tiniest of tourists.
With its wonderful traditional millyard surrounding it on all sides, the Blokweer Museum Mill may well be be the most enjoyable location of the entire windmill complex. You’ll find this special windmill, with origins dating back to 1630, right on the edge of the area. A visit and the chance to take a good look inside are included in your entry ticket.
Spring and Summer are particularly fine times to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Blokweer. Here, you’ll stroll right into life as it was lived in the fifties of last century. Discover how the former residents of a real windmill used to cook dinner, do the laundry, relax, and go to bed. Our millers will show you exactly how this 400-year-old mill is still in perfect working shape today. In fact, it is in good enough shape to make anywhere up to a million round every year! You’ll find all sorts of livestock scuttling about the millyard, including our famous goats Milly and Molly. By mid-June 2019, we will make this location even more worthwhile by adding a new activity especially for children.
Our Prins Friso Hopper tour boat allows you to travel across the water, sailing back and forth between the various visiting locations across the premises. In the Wisboom pumping station, you’re welcome at the polder table, where you can discover for yourself what it means to operate a Kinderdijk windmill. Just work the controls and keep those sails spinning – this could be the start of your new career as a miller… The multi-screen film that is also on display at the Wisboom pumping station is a great way to start your Kinderdijk visit. And once you’ve made a good start, you’ll definitely have to go check out the Nederwaard Museum Mill next!
The Molenhoek souvenir shop is just one of the spots around Kinderdijk where you can get a drink or have a bite to eat. When the weather is nice, the outdoor patio is a great place to unwind and rest your feet. The same goes for the lovely picnic benches set up around the Blokweer Museum Mill.Tickets
