Enjoy pure Dutch World Heritage throughout the year. Check our openinghours per season.

Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage is open to all visitors all year round. Even so, our museum windmills, our visitor centre, and our other showpieces are not accessible every single day of the year. Here, you will find a summary of our exact opening hours, arranged in accordance with our four seasons.

Opening hours

The mills and pumps of UNESCO World Heritage Kinderdijk keep on milling all year long. Day and night, no matter the weather; they have to keep draining the polder ground, or the whole area will be flooded in a matter of weeks. In spite of their year-round readiness, however, the museum windmills, visitor centre, and tour boats of Kinderdijk can’t stay open every day of the year. Below, we provide an overview of our opening hours, allowing you to plan your visit for optimal enjoyment of our Dutch World Heritage.

We’re open all through the year – except on Christmas Day

Winter season: from January 1 until February 16

From New Year’s Day to the first half of February, Kinderdijk is firmly in winter’s grasp. This is the time for our annual maintenance. Our tour boats are laid up, and only one of our two museum windmills, the Blokweer, is accessible from 10am to 4pm. Our wintery guests get to visit the museum windmill at reduced rates: only € 4.50 for adults and € 2 for children aged 4 to 12. The ticket office, our museum windmill Nederwaard , and the Wisboom visitor centre are closed, but the souvenir shop is still in service, providing you with hot chocolate and coffee to warm your hands. Parking is free until February 8.

Early season: from February 17 to March 1

In the second half of February, Kinderdijk World Heritage returns to full working order. Spring is coming, so between 10am and 4pm, both of our museum windmills and our visitor centre are open to all visitors. The Hopper resumes its rounds across the waters of the basins until 4pm, while the Cruiser remains on shore until the end of March.

Main season: from March 1 until October 31

Throughout the summer season, all of our visitor sites are open to full extent. The visitor centre, the museum windmills, the tour boats, and the souvenir shop are operational all week long, from 9am to 5:30pm. The ticket office closes just before that, at 5pm, and no new vehicles are admitted to the parking lot after 5pm. The tour boats make their final departure at 5pm, too.

Late season: November and December

Night falls early in the autumn season, so the museum windmills, the visitor centre, the souvenir shop, and the toilets close at 4pm. We also open our doors one hour later than we do in summer, at 10am. Of our two tour boats, only the Hopper sails in autumn, making its final departure at 4:30. The only day in the year when we are truly closed is Christmas Day, December 25.
